Windy City up Next for Spartan Women’s Golf

EAST LANSING - The Michigan State women’s golf team is off to Chicago for the Windy City Collegiate Classic, which will be played at Northmoor Country Club in Highland Park, Illinois, October 2-3. The 54-hole stroke play tournament will begin with 36 holes on Monday and then conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday.

The Course
Northmoor features 27 holes, with its original 18 holes designed by legendary golf course designer Donald Ross. The par-71 course is set up to play 6,200 yards for the Windy City Collegiate Classic.

The Field
Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Duke, Florida, Iowa State, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Purdue, San Diego State, Tulane and UC-Davis.

The Spartan Lineup
MSU will go with Sarah Burnham, Allyson Geer, Paz Marfa Sans, Katie Sharp and Yurika Tanida at the Windy City Collegiate Championship.

The Last Time Out
The Spartans won the 34th Mary Fossum Invitational on their home course with a tournament record 5-under-par 589 (285-278-296). Sarah Burnham claimed medalist honors with a 6-under-par 210 (70-67-73). It was her third career tournament victory and it was the first time a Spartan won the Fossum Invitational since 2013.

Individually, the Spartans claimed the top three spots as Ally Geer was the runner-up with a 3-under-par 213 (71-69-73) and Paz Marfa Sans took third at 1-over-par 217 (69-71-77).



Burnham is Big Ten Player of the Week
For the fifth time in her career, Sarah Burnham was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week after her win at the Fossum Invitational. She had 49 holes at or below par, including a bogey-free second round when she fired a 5-under-par 67.

Notes and Numbers
Through six rounds this season, individually, the Spartans have combined for 14 rounds under par, including six rounds in the 60s … Sarah Burnham (70.0), Paz Marfa Sans (71.0) and Ally Geer (71.3) lead the Spartans in scoring average … Burnham is averaging a team-high 4.33 birdies per round.
