EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's golf head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll announced Thursday that Kelly Grassel (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton High School) and Katie Sharp (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble High School) have signed National Letters of Intent with MSU and will join the Spartan women's golf roster for the 2013-14 season.
Below is a look at the two student-athletes:
Kelly Grassel Chesterton, Ind. Chesterton High School
Won the Indiana State High School Championship both in 2012 as a senior and 2011 as a junior, while finishing third in 2010 as a sophomore . . . set Indiana State High School Championship record in 2012 with a score of 7-under-par 137 (69-68) . . . named the Indiana High School Athletic Association Mental Attitude Award Winner in 2012 . . . four-time all-state selection . . . four-time Northwest Indiana Player of the Year . . . career scoring average of 73.5 with career low of 63 . . . won 20 of 33 high school tournaments and was 37-0 in head-to-head matches . . . led team to seventh-place finish at the state championships in 2012 and a sixth-place finish in 2011 . . . claimed the 2012 Indiana PGA Jr. Section Championship to qualify for the PGA Jr. National Championship . . . qualified for the 2012 USGA Girls Junior . . . won the 2011 AJGA Midwest Junior Players Championship, one of five top-10 finishes in AJGA events . . . named the 2010 Indiana Golf Association Junior Player of the Year winning the Girls State Junior Championship and the Age Group Championship that year . . . four-time scholar-athlete and honor roll member carrying a 3.98 GPA . . . member National Honor Society.

Katie Sharp Kendallville, Ind. East Noble High School
Four-time all-state honoree . . . four-time state qualifier at the Indiana High School Championships, including runner-up finishes as a senior in 2012 and as a sophomore in 2010 . . . shot a 5-under 139 (70-69) at the 2012 state championships, just two strokes behind state champion Kelly Grassel . . . placed fifth as a freshman in 2009 and 11th as a junior in 2011 . . . finished her senior year with a 69.6 scoring average . . . Academic All-State selection as a senior . . . four-time NHC All-Conference pick and three-time conference tournament medalist . . . two-time (2011, 2012) Hoosier Junior Champion . . . qualified for the 2010 PGA Jr. National Championship . . . named the 2009 Indiana Junior Golf Player of the Year.
Slobodnik-Stoll on Sharp: "Katie is a very accomplished player and student who is determined and focused. We always knew Katie was a Spartan - she and her family came on numerous unofficial visits to East Lansing throughout Katie's high school career and each time the connection grew stronger. Katie will bring a very strong work ethic to our program and the success she has enjoyed as a student-athlete will allow her to help us continue our tradition of excellence."
