Tom Holloway is in his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Michigan State gymnastics team.

“This year we have upgraded our difficulty on all events, especially the floor exercise,” says Holloway. “We have a great group of freshman coming in with a tremendous amount of talent and energy. This, combined with a very experienced team, will yield great results on the competition floor.”

Holloway came to Michigan State from Gymnastiks Unlimited in Grandville, Mich., where he was the director of the competitive team for over 10 years. During his tenure there, Holloway coached numerous athletes to individual, state, regional and national championships. Holloway was named Michigan Male Coach of the Year in 1993.

He got his collegiate coaching start at Central Michigan University where he served as an assistant coach from 1988-90. Prior to CMU, he was the head coach at Union High School in Grand Rapids, Mich., in 1987-88 and the assistant coach at West Catholic High School (Grand Rapids), from 1985-86. Holloway got his first coaching experience at Alpine Gymnastics Club in Grand Rapids from 1984-88 under Tim Chesla.

Holloway graduated from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids with a bachelor of science degree in education in 1998. He also obtained his teaching certificate from Aquinas, and previously earned his associate’s degree in elementary education from Grand Rapids Community College in 1988. In his spare time, Holloway enjoys playing with his kids, riding his Sea-Doo and volunteering his time at Faith Church.

He is married to the former Kim Holmes, a gymnast at Central Michigan University from 1989-93 who earned academic All-American honors. They have two children, daughter Taylor (5) and son Christian (3).
