Gymnastics Concludes Season at NCAA Regionals
Five gymnasts represent MSU at NCAA Regionals.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State gymnastics team wrapped up its season with five individuals competing in the NCAA Regional on Saturday night in Champaign, Ill. Nicola Deans (all around), Kira Frederick (floor), Elena Lagoski (floor), Lindsey Lemke (bars) and Hailee Westney (bars)all represented the Spartans.
Kira Frederick highlighted the evening for MSU by tying for fourth on the floor exercise to make the podium with a score of 9.850.
“We are proud and fortunate to have had five individuals qualify after just falling short of team qualifying this year,” said interim head coach Mike Rowe. “It’s difficult competing as an individual, especially when you’re rotating with three different teams all going at different times and I thought our girls did their best facing these challenges.”
Lagsoki registered a 9.675 and Deans participated on floor after sustaining an injury earlier in the meet and ended up scratching her vault. Hailee Westney tallied a 9.800 on bars, while Lemke registered a 9.725 on her bar routine.
“It was great having Kira on the podium for floor,” said Rowe. “It was unfortunate Nicola tweaked her foot on her bar dismount and you could see it affecting her on beam and floor so we scratched her on vault. Hailee, E and Lindsey all put together decent routines, but not quite enough to qualify on. Overall, I feel that this will motivate our team to strive for consistency throughout next season, as that is the only way you can break through that Top-36 and these girls are definitely hungry to get back there!”
