Spartans Have Strong Showing at Green and White Meet
MSU gymnastics performs routines for the first time this season.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State gymnastics gave their fans a sneak peek of what is to come in the 2017-18 season Friday night in front of a standing room only crowd, welcoming fans to the annual Green and White Meet inside Jenison Field House.
“We were happy with the performances tonight, there were no surprises,” said head coach Mike Rowe. “The nerves seemed to be in check and we know what we need to continue to work on. I think we’re on the right track and we’re going to keep pushing. The energy is good and they are doing great.”
The meet featured athletes in all four events, with seven Spartans competing in vault, nine on beam, seven on bars and 10 on floor.
“I think it’s always good to get in front of a crowd,” associate head coach Nicole Curler said. “We try to replicate routines in practice, but when those ladies in the blue jackets come in and you perform in front of a crowd, things change. This is always a great learning experience and it’s great to hear the judges were impressed with what they saw today and yet, we still know that we have a lot of work to do before January 5.”
The Spartans will hold the annual Meet the Spartans event on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. at Jenison before officially kicking off the 2018 season against Bowling Green on Friday, Jan. 5 at 6 p.m. in East Lansing.
