Women's Gymnasts Fall To No. 6 Michigan In First Dual Meet
Jan. 20, 2000 EAST LANSING, Mich. - The No. 21 Michigan State women’s gymnastics team was defeated by No. 6 Michigan on Thursday, January 20 in Ann Arbor. The Spartans finished with a score of 192.850, while the Wolverines walked away with a 196.750. The Wolverines placed in the top three in every individual event except the all-around, where they only placed first. Senior Sarah Cain from Michigan dominated this meet by taking first in three events and second on the vault and the balance beam. Melissa Green (Jr., East Lansing, Mich.) tied for fourth on the uneven bars with a 9.800, while Elisabeth Forshier (Jr., South St. Paul, Minn.) placed fifth on the vault with a 9.750. Senior Polly Kiker (Englewood, Colo.) placed fifth on the floor exercise with a 9.825 and sixth on the balance beam with a 9.725. Freshman Christy Linder (Fremont, Ohio), scored a 38.550 to finish second in the all-around, with Lindsay Trainham (Fr., Briarcliff, N.Y.) landing a third place finish with 37.625 total points. The Spartans return to action on Saturday, January 29 at 7 p.m. at Illinois.
