Women Gymnasts Are Defeated By Illinois
Michigan State women's gymnastics team fell to Illinois on Saturday, January 29, in Champaign. The Spartans finished with a score of 190.775, while the Fighting Illini ended with 193.475 points.
Melissa Green (Jr., East Lansing, Mich.) placed first on the uneven bars with a 9.875, which ties her best uneven bars score from last season. Erin Mullen (Sr., Kalamazoo, Mich.) also placed on the bars with a 9.750, taking second. Elisabeth Forshier (Jr., South St. Paul, Minn.) landed a first place on the vault with a 9.825, with Lori Ruane (Jr., Granger, Ind.) tied for second with a 9.750. With a 9.850, sophomore Jane McIntosh (Concord, Mich.) tied for first on the floor exercise. Freshman Christy Linder (Fremont, Ohio), tied for third on the uneven bars (9.725), had a fifth place finish on the floor exercise (9.725) and scored a 38.675 to finish first in the all-around. The Spartans return to action on Sunday, February 6 at the Michigan Classic in Kalamazoo at 2 p.m. Michigan State will compete against Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan.
