Gymnastics Travels to New Hampshire for Final Quad Meet of Season

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State gymnastics closes out its road trip on Saturday, Feb. 12 when they travel to Durham, N.H., for a quad meet with host New Hampshire, Alaska and Brown. Action is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. This meet marks the second of MSU's three-straight meets on the road.

The Spartans are tied for 42nd in the nation overall with an average score of 91.765. MSU is also currently ranked 38th in the nation on vault with an average score of 48.250. On the uneven bars, MSU is tied for 40th overall (48.130) while sitting 42nd in the balance beam (47.440). On the floor, the Spartans rank 49th with a 47.945 average score.

Jackie Berg and Daneen Haba each lead the team on the beam with an average score of 9.800. On the vault, Nicole Argiros posts a team-high average of 9.750. 9.825 Kelsey Morley is the top gymnast on the balance beam for MSU with a 9.725 average. Gillian Carr rounds out the Spartan apparatus leaders with her 9.700 average on the floor. Shanthi Teike leads the team in the all-around with her 38.230 mark.

Last weekend, Spartans continued with their first of three straight road contests when they traveled to Kalamazoo, Mich., for a meet with Western Michigan. MSU competed strong but were unable to pull out the win, falling 194.625-191.825.

Scouting the Opponents
New Hampshire has the best overall score of the four teams this weekend with a 194.071 (28th). UNH has its best ranking of 17th nationally on both the vault and the floor with scores of 48.829 and 48.762, respectively. On the balance beam, the Wildcats are 31st (48.125) while they are 32nd nationally on the uneven bars (48.371).

 

 

Individually, Austyn Fobes leads the team on the vault with a score of 9.792. On the uneven bars, Danielle Reibold posts a team-best average of 9.767 while she is also tops on the balance beam (9.683). Forbes is also the top UNH gymnast on the floor exercise with a 9.825 mark. Chelsea Steinberg is tops on the team in the all-around with a 38.800 average.

Alaska currently has an overall average of 187.608. Alaska's best event is the floor exercise where they have a ranking if 58th nationally (47.500). On the vault, it is 61st nationally with a 47.367 mark, and 62nd on the uneven bars (46.592). The balance beam has Alaska ranked 64th with a 46.150 mark.

Shakea Sanders leads Alaska on the vault with a score of 9.575, while Maria Puricelli is tops on the uneven bars (9.550). Kaelei Spoor currently posts a team-best 9.658 on the balanace beam. Kelsey Fullerton has a team-high 9.675 on the floor exercise. Melissa Doucette paces the all-arounders with 36.975 average score.

Brown currently is 65th nationally with a 186.988 average mark. On the uneven bars, Brown is currently 59th with a 46.844 while it is 62nd on the floor with a 47.181 average. The uneven bars have Brown 59th (46.844) while it is 65th on the vault (46.800).

Emily Lutfey leads Brown on the vault (9.500), the uneven bars (9.575) and in the all-around (37.894). Carli Wiesenfeld is the team leader on the balance beam while Katie Goddard has a team-best 9.675 on the floor exercise.

Action will continue for the Spartans next weekend when they travel to Columbus, Ohio for a Big Ten showdown with Ohio State on Friday, Feb. 18. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
