EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior captain Taira Neal earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors as announced by the conference office Monday, March 18. This marks the second Big Ten award for the Normal, Ill. native.
Neal is posting a 9.890 RQS on vault and has led the Spartans in the event, earning top honors six times this season. The senior has won first place on vault 15 times in her career, second place twice, and third place once. Neal posted a career-high of 9.925 six times in her career to tie for fifth in the all-time record book for vault. She has also been honored on bars at third place twice this season, six times in her career.
On beam, Neal has been honored twice for second place in her career and twice for third place this season.
Neal sits at 34th in the nation, sixth in the region and tenth in the conference. She boasts a season and career-high of 9.800 on beam, recorded this season in back-to-back competitions against Minnesota and Iowa/UIC. Neal hit also season-high of 9.825 on beam at Penn State.
The Spartans will host the 2013 Big Ten Championships on Saturday, March 23, at Jenison Field House. Michigan State will compete at 1 p.m. and the meet will air live on the Big Ten Network.
