EAST LANSING, Mich. – Three Michigan State gymnasts will travel to the University of Alabama to compete at NCAA Regionals on Saturday, April 6 at 6 p.m. Freshman Lisa Burt, sophomore Alina Cartwright and senior Taira Neal will represent the Spartans at the regional meet.
Competing in the all-around competition will be Burt with Cartwright traveling as an alternate. Burt posted a season-high of 39.325 at Penn State on Feb. 23 and has compiled a 38.835 RQS in the all-around competition. Cartwright has tallied an RQS of 38.590, while she notched her career-high (39.125) in the all-around at the Big Ten Championships held last weekend in East Lansing.
Senior captain Taira Neal will represent Michigan State on the vault after earning an RQS of 9.900. Neal tied her career-high of 9.925 twice this season against Michigan and Pittsburgh.
Qualifying on the beam for Michigan State is Cartwright after finishing the season with a 9.820 RQS. She recorded a career-high of 9.850 on the event on March 2 while facing Michigan.
Last weekend, Michigan State hosted Big Ten Championships and placed seventh overall with an team score of 195.450. Burt, who place second overall on the parallel bars with a score of 9.9, and Neal, who posted a 9.9 on vault to tie for eighth overall, were named to the All-Championship Team.
Tickets for the NCAA Regionals can be purchased through the University of Alabama website, rolltide.com. Prices for tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children.
