East Lansing, Mich. -
The Michigan State Gymnastics team participated in the Strides for Breast Cancer walk on Saturday, Oct. 20. Participating for the second consecutive year, the team raised nearly $3,000 for the ninth-annual Strides walk in Lansing.
The day began at 7:30 AM when the team met at Jenison Field House to car pool to the Capitol. Registration was completed and the team was ready to go. The opening ceremonies were supposed to include a basic warm up by a Jazzercise instructor - but when that person could not attend due to illness, the gymnastics team was called in. With a five-minute preparation, the team jumped up on the Capitol steps and started to warm up the 3,000 people in the crowd to the song of "Temperature". The crowd was rocking and ready to go. After the completion of the opening ceremonies, the Strides for Breast Cancer Walk began. More than 30 people from the team, coaching staff, family and friends participated in the walk.
The MSU Gymnastics team will continue their quest for breast cancer awareness when it hosts Pittsburgh on Jan. 19. The team has dedicated the dual meet to "Breast Cancer Awareness" and will conduct a variety of activities to help raise funds and educate patrons in attendance.
