EAST LANSING, Mich. – Two freshman Spartans, Lisa Burt and Nicola Deans, have been recognized on the Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch list.

“Lisa Burt is a graceful performer who brings a wealth of national experience to our program,” said head coach Kathie Klages.  “Lisa will be a regular fixture in the all -round most of the season.”

Burt was a member of ACE Gymnastics for 15 years and named MVP in 2012.  In 2012, she placed third on beam and 11th in all-around at the Nastia Cup.  Earlier this season at the Green and White exhibition, Burt tied for first on the floor exercise and claimed first on the balance beam.  She also earned a combined score of 38.95 to win the all-around title.

"Nicola Deans is a very powerful gymnast with a high degree of difficulty in her gymnastics,” said Klages.  “We expect Nicola to compete in the all-around much of the season.”

Deans was a member of Futures Gymnastics Club for 11 years.  She won floor exercise, balance beam and vault at 2012 Provincials.  At 2012 Nationals, Deans was named the Floor Exercise National Champion and placed second in all-around, vault and balance beam.  In 2011, Deans was a member of Team Gold Nationals and was awarded Vault Silver at Nationals.

MSU will begin its regular season against Western Michigan on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Jenison Field House.
