EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State gymnastics team will host Western Michigan for a meet on Friday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. The meet, held on the third floor of Jenison Field House, will be the second and final exhibition and the only outside competition the Spartans will face prior to this season.

The Spartans are coming off of an intra-squad Green and White meet. Junior Alina Cartwright led MSU on both the vault and bars events, while sophomore Brittany Holmes was the top Spartan on beam and freshman Elena Lagowski turned in the team’s top performance on the floor.

Cartwright and Lagowski were recently recognized on the Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch list for the upcoming 2014 season. As a team, the Spartans were selected seventh in the coaches poll.

The Spartans will officially open the regular season when they host Illinois on Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. at Jenison Field House.
