We are back from BAMA…and we came out successful! We had a great competition and a fun experience as well! With such a young team we really had a great learning experience this year. It was a crazy Regional Meet! How often do ties occur in gymnastics, well it happened this year at the Central Regional meet. Iowa State and Oklahoma tied for second place. The top two teams advance to NCAA Nationals. The way the tie is handled is they include all six scores and whoever has a higher team total, advances to Nationals. In this case, Oklahoma beat Iowa State by 2-tenths! It was an exciting meet!
We started out on beam and just nailed it! After our performance from Big Ten’s we were thrilled that we kicked some major butt on beam! The girls hit six-for-six routines and had a great start. We then went on to floor and we had to count a fall but we weren’t out of the competition. Vault was good and bars was a little shaky but all six competitors stayed on. The girls had a great time, and they kept their positive attitudes throughout the entire competition. There were some great moments and some sad moments.
!!!ALL-AROUND NCAA NATIONAL QUALIFIER---ROCHELLE ROBINSON!!!
We were sad that this was the last competition for our seniors! They really had a great career at MSU! We are all very proud of each one…Chayla Hill-2006 Big Ten Vault Champion, Kristen Coleman-2007 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year and two-time First Team All Big Ten Selection, and Victoria Iakounina-2004 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and two-time Second Team All Big Ten Selection!
The team may be done with their season but Rochelle has the opportunity to carry Michigan State University on to the NCAA National Championships. The coaching staff is very proud of the team’s performance at Regionals. We are already fired up for next season!
