Beyond the Beam
WOW, what an exciting weekend MSU had!!! We hosted the 16th Annual State of Michigan Classic this past weekend. The teams in this meet include, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, University of Michigan, AND of course the MSU Spartans!! Our team really performed very well and we came out of the meet with a "W". We won the meet with our highest score of the season…196.35. This meet was Alumni Appreciation day and it was a great meet for them to come back and watch. We look to keep this momentum going and take it with us to UNH.
I was very pleased with our team performance at the Michigan Classic. The girls did a great job staying energized throughout the entire competition. We did have some falls in the meet but the team did not let them affect their performances. The coaching staff is excited that we have some athletes who were injured returning. Emily Lopatofsky and Kelly Moffitt are working their way back into the line-up. Emily has only gotten a taste of what college gymnastics is about after competing in only the first meet. She is eager to get back competing again. Kelly is also chomping at the bit to get back into the line-up. She injured her knee in the second meet and will be returning very soon. Rhiannon Banda-Scott, who was recovering from a shoulder surgery in September, performed an exhibition routine on beam at the Michigan Classic. We are very excited to see her competing and can't wait to get her back on more events.
We are on our way to the East Coast this weekend to compete in the Fox Run Invitational hosted by the University of New Hampshire. We will be competing against The University of New Hampshire, Brown University, and West Virginia University. We look forward to further improving our gymnastics. Our next home meet is Saturday February, 17th at 7pm. Hope to see you there supporting your Spartan Gymnasts.
