Stacy Heller Reaches Career Shutout Mark
Sept. 5, 2003 YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The No. 19 Michigan State's women's soccer team defeated Eastern Michigan, 2-0, on Friday (Sept. 5) in Ypsilanti. Spartan goalkeeper Stacy Heller (Sr., Madison, Wis.) recorded her second shutout of the season, establishing a Michigan State career record with 17.5 shutouts.The Spartans improve to 2-1 with the win, while Eastern Michigan falls to 0-2-1 with the loss. Michigan State's Erin Konheim (So., West Bloomfield) scored the first Spartan goal at 7:39 when her cross bounced off the post and into the net . In the second half, Emma Harris (So., Portage, Mich.) scored a goal with assists from Emily Carbott (Jr., Northville, Mich.) and Konheim. Although Eastern Michigan out shot the Spartans, 16-5, MSU made the most of its scoring opportunities, while keeping the Eagles off the scoreboard. Heller finished the game with five saves. Her shutout breaks a tie with former Spartan Sara Kloosterman (1997-2000), who held the career mark with 16.5 shutouts. MSU returns to East Lansing on Sunday (Sept. 7) when it hosts Detroit at noon at Old College Field.
