EAST LANSING, Mich. - Laura Heyboer had two goals 1:46 apart and Lauren Hill added a late insurance marker as the Michigan State women's soccer team got three-second half goals en route to a 4-0-shutout win over Central Michigan on Sunday (Sept. 6) afternoon at DeMartin Stadium.

"Central came out very strong," said Heyboer. "They threw a lot at us but we held our own."

The two teams both struggled to find an offensive rhythm early on but the Spartans' Cara Freeman put MSU on the board first with a goal from six yards out in the 22nd minute. Freeman took a touch pass from Lauren Hill in close and put it just inside the left post for her second of the season.

After registering just two shots in the first half, CMU was able to generate some offense early in the second half. The Chippewa's best chance came when a shot by Jenna Hill was tipped by MSU goalkeeper Jill Flietstra just off the crossbar and over the net.

Flietstra's big save gave the Spartans the momentum they needed as just over 30 seconds later, Heyboer scored her first of the day off a long feed from Jordan Mueller. Heyboer got the ball on the right side and outraced the CMU defense and but the ball into the far side of the net.

Heyboer got her second of the game and fourth of the season just 1:46 later as she beat Chippewa keeper Shay Mannino who had come out of the net near the top of the penalty area.

"We made a little bit of a change at halftime; recognizing that Laura Heyboer was getting doubled every time," said MSU head coach Tom Saxton. "We made some adjustments that seemed to work right away."

Hill iced the game for MSU at the 76:13 mark with her team-leading fifth goal of the season. She now has a goal in each of MSU's (3-0-1) four games this season.

"It's a credit to her and her talent and ability, and let's hope we can keep rolling," said Saxton about Hill's streak.

Flietstra made six saves in just over 83 minutes of work and has allowed just one goal this season.

The Spartans return to action at DeMartin Stadium on Friday (Sept. 11) when they take on Illinois State at 4 p.m.
