Four Different Spartans Score In 4-0 Victory Over Detroit

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The No. 19 Michigan State women's soccer team defeated Detroit, 4-0, on Sunday (Sept. 7) at Old College Field. Spartan goalkeepers Stacy Heller (Sr., Madison, Wis.) and Erin Carlson (Jr., Portage, Mich.) combined for the shutout as the Spartans improve to 3-1 with the win, while Detroit falls to 1-1 with the loss. Michigan State's Emma Harris (So., Portage) scored her second goal of the season in the eighth minute of the first half with assists from Tiffany Laskowski (Madison, Wis.) and Erin Konheim (So., West Bloomfield). Forward Trisha Kenny (Sr., Saginaw) kicked a shot over the Titans' goalie's head to score the second goal at 32:23 with an assist from midfielder Abby Shepherd (Jr., Milford). Laskowski scored her first goal of the season early in the second half with assists from Michelle Perun (Sr., Rochester) and Harris at 47:54. The fourth goal was scored by Shepherd with assists from Laskowski and Kenny in the 77th minute. The four goals marked a season high for the Spartans. Although the Titans finished the game with seven saves, the Spartans strong offense outshot Detroit 15-4 and recorded the only five corner kicks of the game.
