East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State women's soccer team closed out the home portion of it's schedule with a 2-0 decision over Ohio State (9-8-1, 4-5-1 Big Ten) on Sunday afternoon. Senior Laura Heyboer had a got a goal and an assist in her final regular-season game at DeMartin Stadium, while classmate Hannah Peterson had the game-winner in the 75th minute. Senior keeper Jill Flietstra made two saves in picking up her eighth shutout of the year.

The Spartans (13-5-0, 6-4-0 Big Ten) got the game-winner - and the first goal of the game - in the 75th minute. Megan Pines sent a pass to Heyboer 10 yards out, and the senior calmly sent a low, strong cross to Peterson over at the left post. Peterson had plenty of time and space to get her third goal of the season.

Less than two minutes later, Heyboer was hauled down in the box, putting her on the line for a penalty shot. The senior converted it for her 18th goal of the season.

The Spartans had the better run of play for most of the game, and had a significant edge in shots (15-9) and shots on goal (6-2). The teams each had four corners.

The eleven Spartan seniors were honored in a brief pre-game ceremony. As a group , they recorded their 47th career victory, which is the most over a four-year span since the early part of the 1990's.

The Spartans now have a week to prepare for their season finale, next Saturday at Northwestern.
