Women’s Soccer Announces Incoming Recruiting Class

EAST LANSING - Michigan State women’s soccer head coach Tom Saxton announced Wednesday (Feb. 3) that eight student-athletes have committed to play for the Spartans this fall. Olivia Argeros (Rochester/ Adams), Lydia Franks (Kentwood/East Kentwood), Hannah Jones (Port Huron/Northern), Amy Krause (Brighton/Brighton), Kassidy Madrigal (Scottsdale, Arizona/Notre Dame Prep), Sadie Misiewicz (Holland/Holland), Celia Oatis (Maumee, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) and Madison VanDyke (Hudsonville/Unity Christian) will all join the Spartans in the fall of 2016.

“We are pleased to welcome our 2016 recruiting class to our Spartan soccer family,” said Saxton. “This is a very talented group and they cover all the positions on the field. They will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact and we expect each of them to play an important role with our 2016 team and our program in the future.”

Rochester Hills, Mich.| Rochester Adams
Position: Goalkeeper
Club Team: Rochester Soccer Club

Will be a four-year letterwinner for coach Aaron Donaghy at Rochester Adams High School … Two-time all-state selection, earning first-team honors as a sophomore and second-team recognition last year as a junior … Named to the all-state Dream Team as a sophomore … Three-time all-district and all-league honoree … Gatorade Player of the Year nominee as a junior … Earned conference scholar athlete honors three consecutive years … Part of the ODP State Team from 2012-15 and the Region II Pool in 2015 … Earned two varsity letters in basketball, helping Adams to the OAA White League title as a sophomore.

Saxton on Argeros…
“Olivia has proven herself as one of the top goalkeepers in the State of Michigan and we are delighted to have her join our program. She will provide us with important depth in goal and I’m certain that she will become an outstanding player at the college level.”

Lydia Franks
Kentwood, Mich. | East Kentwood
Position: Forward
Club Team: Midwest United FC

Will captain the East Kentwood team this spring in fourth varsity season playing for coach John Conlon … Fought an injury to help East Kentwood to a regional title and appearance in the state semifinals last year as a junior … Two-time all-academic team member … Took part in the State Cup quarterfinals in 2014 and the Disney Showcase in 2014-15 … Plans to major in kinesiology

Saxton on Franks…
“Lydia is another strong player joining us from the Midwest United Soccer Club. She is battling back from an injury but we expect her to fully recovery and provide us with speed and an attacking mentality in the wing spaces.”

Hannah Jones
Port Huron, Mich. | Port Huron Northern
Position: Midfielder
Club Team: Michigan Hawks

Named the 2015 Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year … Ranked No. 66 in the Top Drawer Soccer National Top 150 … Scored 24 goals as a junior in leading Port Huron Northern to a tie for first place in the league, earning league MVP honors and all-state second team recognition … Scored 47 goals and was named league MVP … Three-time Port Huron Times Herald Girls Soccer Player of the Year … Will be a four-year letterwinner for coach Bryan Becker … Carries a 4.0 GPA … Member of the ODP State and Regional Teams … Took part in the Nike National ID2 camp in 2013-14 … Earned two varsity letters in cross country.

Saxton on Jones…

Amy Krause
Brighton, Mich. | Brighton
Position: Midfielder/Forward
Club Team: Michigan Hawks

Has played six years of club soccer for the Michigan Hawks … Helped the Hawks to second place in the Midwest region last year … National Honor Society member … Lettered in track and field at Brighton High School.

Kassidy Madrigal
Scottsdale, Ariz. | Notre Dame Prep
Position: Defender
Club Team: Soreno Soccer Club

Ranked as one of the top regional defenders by Top Drawer Soccer … Four-year letterwinner for coach Tom White at Notre Dame Preparatory where she captains the team as a senior … Helped lead Notre Dame to the Arizona Division II state title as a junior in 2015 … Earned the team’s defensive MVP award as a junior … Earned Division II first-team honors in 2014 … Has played for the Sereno Soccer Club since fourth grade, and has captained the team since 2012 … Plans to major in advertising.

Saxton on Madrigal…

Sadie Misiewicz
Holland, Mich. | Holland
Position: Midfielder
Club Team: Alliance Academy

Two-time all-state honoree at Holland High School, earning first team honors as a junior in 2015 and second team honors as a sophomore the year prior … Helped Holland to the district finals as a sophomore in 2014 … 2014 Holland Sentinel Girls Soccer Player of the Year … Two-time all-region, all-district and all-conference honoree … Member of the National Honor Society … Two-time team captain … Member of the ODP State and Regional Teams … Helped her club team, Alliance Academy, to a state and regional title in 2013.

Saxton on Misiewicz…
“Sadie will be a great addition to our midfield. She has high level experience with the Region 2 ODP team. Sadie’s technical ability combined with her work rate will be great assets at the college level.”

Celia Oatis
Maumee, Ohio | St. Ursula Academy
Position: Midfielder
Club Team: Michigan Hawks

Captained St. Ursula Academy and earned first-team all-district and all-league in leading the team to the district championship and Three Rivers Athletic Conference title in 2015 … Helped St. Ursula to the district title and a berth in the Division II state semifinals as a freshman … Played club soccer for the Michigan Hawks … ODP Region Team member … Member of the National Honor Society … Plans to major in finance

Saxton on Oatis…
“Celia is another very accomplished midfielder. She has played at a very high level with her Hawks club team and as a member of the Region 2 ODP team. She will be an important part of our midfield throughout her career.”

Three-time All-State honoree for coach Randy Heethuis at Unity Christian High School … Named to the Dream Team and first-team all-state as a junior after earning first-team honors as a sophomore and second-team accolades as a freshman … Helped Unity Christian to back-to-back state titles in 2014 and 2015 … Three-time all-region, all-district and all-league honoree … Earned two varsity letters in both volleyball and basketball.
