EAST LANSING - Michigan State women's soccer head coach Tom Saxton has announced the addition of seven student-athletes that have signed National Letters of Intent and will be joining the Spartans this fall. Jamie Cheslik (Northville, Mich./Northville), Kristy Gomez (DeWitt, Mich./Lansing Christian), Brielle Leon (La Quinta, Calif./La Quinta), Morgan McKerchie (Clio, Mich./Flint Powers), Rachel Rhodes (Palatine, Ill./Palatine), Mary Lisa Rounce (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) and Kristelle Yewah (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) will join the Spartans for the 2014 season.

"We are very pleased with the fine group of student-athletes that make-up our 2014 recruiting class," said MSU head coach Tom Saxton. "We feel we have added impact players at a variety of positions. We have especially added quality and depth to our attack. Although we do have a number of experienced players returning, we have no doubt that these incoming freshmen will be important contributors to our 2014 team."

Jamie Cheslik
Northville, Mich./Northville

Earned second team All-State accolades as a junior at Northville High School...As a member of the Michigan Hawks U17, she led the Elite Clubs National League, the top girls soccer club league in the nation, in goals with 15 last season...Also earned all-district and all-conference honorable mention at Northville.

Jamie Cheslik


Saxton on Cheslik: "Jamie was one of the most successful forwards in the country in elite club soccer. She should make a quick adjustment to the college game with her physical and hard-working style. We expect to be a go-to player in the years ahead."

Kristy Gomez
DeWitt, Mich./Lansing Christian

Garnered first team All-State, all-region and all-district as a freshman and sophomore at Lansing Christian...Named team captain as a junior, but missed a majority of the season due to injury...Scored 43 goals as a freshman and 52 as a sophomore...Part of a Lansing Christian team that went to the state semifinals in last year and the finals her sophomore season...Played club soccer for TNT Dynamite.

Kristy Gomez


Saxton on Gomez: "Kristy is another in a long line of fine players from the Capital Area. She is a tremendous athlete with great potential at the college level."

Brielle Leon
La Quinta, Calif./La Quinta

Two-time first-team All-California Interscholastic Federation in 2012 and '13 at La Quinta High School...She is currently in the midst of her senior season and has 22 goals and seven assists in 15 games...Plays club soccer for Desert United Soccer Club G95...Three-year team captain for La Quinta and four-year captain for Desert United...Holds the La Quinta record for most goals in a season (26) and most career goals (67) and assists (38)...Trained with the U17 Mexican National Team in March 2012...Named Player of the Year by the Desert Sun in 2013...Two-time academic honor roll member.

Brielle Leon


Saxton on Leon: "Brielle is a top forward from Southern California that we feel very fortunate to have signed. She has starred for the Desert United Soccer Club that is run by former MSU men's team alum, Jeff Petoskey. Brielle will be a great addition to our attack."

Morgan McKerchie

Earned first team All-State, all-region, all-district, all-conference and all-county honors in 2011 and '12 at Flint Powers High School)...Led Flint Powers to the 2011 Division 3 State Championship, earning team offensive MVP accolades...Plays club soccer for the Michigan Hawks...Three-time ODP Region II Pool selection (2010-12) and five-time ODP Michigan state team (2008-12).

Saxton on McKerchie: "Morgan is also a top player from one of the best club teams in the country, the Michigan Hawks. She is extremely skillful with great pace. She will have the opportunity to have an immediate impact as a versatile right-side player."

Rachel Rhodes
Palatine, Ill./Palatine

Four-year varsity goalkeeper that led Palatine High School to consecutive regional championships in 2011 and `12...Plays club soccer for Sockers FC of the Elite Clubs National League...Member of the National Honor Society and two-time honor roll member.

Saxton on Rhodes: "Rachel is an excellent goalkeeper from one of the top clubs in Chicago, Sockers FC. She will immediately add quality and depth to our goalkeeping position."

Mary Rounce
Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North

Plays club soccer for Team Chicago Academy-Santos...Played one season for Downers Grove North, earning all-conference honors in 2011...Part of the ODP Illinois state team from 2008-12, including captaining the team in 2011.

Saxton on Rounce: "Mary also comes to us from an excellent Chicago club, Team Chicago. She is a versatile central midfielder with a tremendous soccer IQ. We look forward to her playing an important role in our midfield in the years ahead."

Kristelle Yewah
Okemos, Mich./Okemos

Three-time all-district and all-conference honoree at Okemos High School...Garnered first team All-State and all-region honors in leading Okemos to the league title as a junior last season...As a sophomore, she helped Okemos to the state championship, earning honorable mention All-State accolades in the process...Three-year letterwinner in basketball, earning all-conference and team MVP honors as a junior.

Saxton on Yewah: "Kristelle is an extremely talented student-athlete from Okemos High School. She has skill and knowledge to become a fantastic college player. We are delighted to have her join our program."
