Women's Soccer Hosts CMU In Final Exhibition Saturday
The Spartans are coming off a 4-2 victory in the first tune-up at Toledo on Aug. 9.
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State women’s soccer hosts Central Michigan in its second and final exhibition game of the 2018 season Saturday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium. Admission will be free for all fans in attendance.
The Spartans are coming off a 4-2 victory over Toledo in the first exhibition game of the season on Aug. 9 that featured several players seeing time on the field. Freshman forward Gia Wahlberg scored two goals in her collegiate debut, while junior Celia Oatis and redshirt-junior Brittany Tanner also got their names on the scoresheet.
“Toledo had a nice scheme so I was happy our players on the field sorted it out quickly in the first 15 minutes,” MSU head coach Tom Saxton said. “I think we can be more consistent and efficient in our attack against CMU and that’s what we’ll turn to in training.”
Saturday night’s game will be the first action at DeMartin Stadium for 12 freshmen: Lauren Kozal (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Northern), Madison Clem (Okemos, Mich./Williamston), Mya Fregoli (Washington Twp./Romeo), Camryn Evans (Fenton, Mich./Flint Powers), Gia Wahlberg (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North), Lexi Childers (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc), Abby Gardiner (Novi, Mich./Northville), Miranda Hart (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X), Ava Diggins (Far Hills, N.J./Gill St. Bernard’s), Sam Sklarski (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich./Grosse Pointe South), Samantha White (Mckees Rocks, Penn./Montour), and Annabelle Honet (West Bloomfield, Mich./Groves).
Following Saturday’s final exhibition MSU will host three consecutive games at DeMartin Stadium to open the 2018 regular season, starting with Southern Utah Friday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m.
Boston University will head to East Lansing on August 19 for a 1 p.m. kickoff and Green Bay will round out the homestand on August 23 for a 3 p.m. start.
