ROSEMONT, Illinois - The Big Ten announced its preseason poll along with its Players to Watch List today (Aug. 13). Junior defender Mary Kathryn Fiebernitz, senior forward Paige Wester and senior midfielder Megan Marsack were all named to the Players to Watch List.
The Spartans were voted 12th by the coaches in the preseason poll, while Penn State was picked first. The Big Ten continually boasts some of the best teams in the nation as last season there were nine current Big Ten schools that earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Fiebernitz was an All-Big Ten second team selection last season as a sophomore. The native of Linden had a team-leading six goals in 2013 and had one assist. Fiebernitz appeared in 16 of the Spartans' 18 games and her 13 points ranked second on the team.
Wester saw action in 10 games last season. The Portage native scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the Spartans' 4-0 win over Purdue. She also added three assists in 2013.
Marsack had a team-high five assists and also added a goal last season. She appeared in 16 of 18 games.
The Spartans will meet Virginia in an exhibition game on Friday and will open the regular season on Aug. 22 at San Diego State.
