Three Spartans Named to Big Ten Women’s Soccer Preseason Honors List

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Three members of the Michigan State women’s soccer team have been named to the Big Ten Women’s Soccer Preseason Honors List, the conference office announced Monday. Senior Jamie Cheslik, junior Michaela Kovacs and junior Lexy Warner were named to the list.
Cheslik, a native of Northville, Michigan, started at forward in all 18 games last season. She led the team with 14 points on five goals and four assists. Cheslik also led the team in shots on goal, collecting 23 on the season. She earned a career-high five points against No. 16 Penn State on two goals and one assist.

Kovacs, from Hudsonville, Michigan, earned the start in all 18 games for the Spartans last year. She spent 1,680 minutes on the field at defense, the second-most of any Spartan, and was credited with 13 shots.

A native of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Warner received the start in 17 games last season. The forward tallied five points on two goals and one assist, the fourth highest on the team. Warner took 28 shots last season, the second highest for the Spartans.

Head coaches of the Big Ten picked Penn State to win the conference, while Michigan State is slated in 11th for the league. Defending Big Ten champion Minnesota is slotted in fifth place.
All 14 Big Ten teams hit the field this weekend to begin regular season play. The Spartans host Niagara on Friday, Aug. 18, at 3 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium.
