Aug. 25, 2008
EAST LANSING, Mich. - MSU women's soccer freshman Laura Heyboer was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, Monday (Aug. 25), by the conference office. It is the first award of the season given by the conference and Heyboer is the first Spartan to receive the honor since Lauren Sinacola last September. Heyboer made her collegiate debut in the Spartans' 5-1 win over Oakland on Friday (Aug. 22) and scored three goals and added one assist in the win.
Heyboer assisted on Sinacola's goal in the first minute of the game and then scored three-consecutive goals in a 20-minute span of the second half. She is the conference leader in points with seven.
The Hudsonville native is a two-time Michigan Miss Soccer recipient and the state's all-time leader in points (290).
The Spartans hit the road for a pair of games this weekend as they take on DePaul, Friday (Aug. 29) at 4 p.m. and Bowling Green, Sunday (Aug. 31) at 1 p.m.
