Michigan State hosted intra-state rival Central Michigan on Wednesday for its final mid-week game of the regular season, and two runs for the Chippewas in both the sixth and seventh innings allowed the visitors to come back from a 4-2 deficit to claim a 6-4 victory.

Michigan State senior pitcher Kelly Smith (Friendswood, Texas) has been named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the Conference office on Monday, April 21. Smith put together three outstanding performances for MSU last weekend, and added to the Spartan record book in the process.
Michigan State won its first-ever series in Iowa City, downing Iowa 4-0 on Sunday afternoon to win the rubber match in the three-game set. The Spartans won the series behind the pitching performance of senior Kelly Smith, who scattered five hits and struck out six, while Lindsey Besson went 2-for-4, knocking in the first and final runs of the game.
MSU dropped the middle game of a three-game set to Iowa on Saturday afternoon, leaving 13 runners on base in a 5-1 loss to the Hawkeyes. The loss denies Michigan State its first three-game winning streak of the season.
