Nikki Myers is in her third season working with the Michigan State softball staff. Her primary responsibilities at MSU revolve around working with the pitching staff and helping with various Spartan pitching and hitting camps and clinics. "In the two years that Nikki has been part of our staff at MSU she has made great strides with our pitchers. It is nice to have credibility of being a former All-American pitcher and pro player in the eyes of the players," head coach Jacquie Joseph said. Prior to her hiring in August of 2004, Myers spent the spring season serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Florida Atlantic following a highly successful four-year career as a starting pitcher at FAU (1998-2002). As a volunteer assistant coach at Florida Atlantic, Myers assisted in planning daily practices and helped with recruiting and scouting. She also worked as a camp counselor and clinician in FAU's camps, as she taught fundamentals of softball to campers. Myers, who spent the summer of 2006 with the Conneticut Brakettes of the National Pro Fastpitch League, was a three-time Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year. She was also the league's conference championship most valuable player four times and earned First-Team all-conference honors in each of her four years at FAU. Additionally, she was named a Second-Team All-America selection twice, and earned NCAA All-Regional honors in '00 and '01. Myers spent the summer of '04 with the Akron Racers of the NPFL. Myers is ranked 20th all-time in NCAA history with 1,376 strikeouts, and was one of 10 players on the short list for the 2002 National Player of the Year award. She was FAU's female athlete of the year in 1999, earned A-Sun pitcher of the week accolades 15 times, and player of the week honors six times throughout her career. For her outstanding career at FAU, Myers was one of seven members to be inducted into the inaugural class of the Florida Atlantic University Athletics Hall of Fame in October of 2006. Myers earned her B.S. in biology from FAU in May 2004, with a major course of study in science. |
