Michigan State dropped its final game of the FAU Kickoff Classic on Sunday morning, falling to Boston University 3-0.
A lack of timely hits and a too many fielding errors plagued MSU (2-3) in the game, as the Spartans stranded nine runners and committed four errors. Michigan State got another strong pitching performance - Kristina Zalewski scattered four hits and allowed just one earned run in a complete game performance., striking out one without walking a batter. On the weekend she allowed just one earned run over 13 innings in her two starts, losing a pair of 3-0 decisions.
BU starter Ali Dubuois went the distance for the Terriers, striking out seven and walking just one. Catcher Alex Heinen went 2-for-3 for the Terriers, while Emma Wong had a pair of RBI.
Both McKenzie Long and Lexi White had two hits on the day for the Spartans.
MSU heads to South Carolina next weekend for four games at the Gamecock Invitational.
McKenzie Long went 2-for-3 and had five assists.
Lexi White went 2-for-4 with a double.
Kristina Zalewski had her second start of the weekend, allowing just four base hits and one earned run in six innings of work.
"Just too many errors. Its the opening weekend, so some of those things are unavoidable. I think our pitching staff put us in a position to win every game this weekend - Kristina Zalewski allowed one earned run over two complete games, and ended up with two losses. That's a tough one to swallow for sure. As a team, we need to be better in our execution going forward."
