BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Michigan State softball suffered two losses Saturday afternoon at the Hoosier Classic on Saturday afternoon. Wright State edged MSU, 2-1, and Central Michigan took an early lead to top the Spartans, 3-0.
Wright State (3-13) and Michigan State went scoreless in the first and second innings in the first game. MSU was first to put a run on the scoreboard, as senior Kylene Hopkins scored in the bottom of the third.
The Raiders tied the game on an unearned run in the fifth inning and scored the game-winning run on a passed ball in the top of the sixth inning.
Raider pitcher Krystian Dewitt picked up the win, pitching a complete game and improving her record to 2-5.
In the matchup between MSU and CMU, the Chippewas (11-10) took the lead in the first inning, scoring two runs.
The teams held one another scoreless for the second, third and fourth innings. Central Michigan broke the silence and scored its third and final run in the bottom of the fifth.
O'Bryant led the Spartans by going 2-for-3 at the plate.
On the mound for MSU was Smith (11-7), who tallied four strikeouts in a complete game. Smith allowed three runs, all earned.
Taking the win was Central Michigan's Kara Dornbos, who is 3-5 on the season.
MSU finishes up the action at the Hoosier Classic Sunday, facing UIC at 10 a.m. and Toledo at 12:15 p.m.
