Softball Suffers Loss to Illinois
The Spartans fall, 10-2, in game two of the series against the Fighting Illini.

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State fell to Illinois, 10-2, in game two of the series Saturday afternoon at Secchia Stadium. Leading the offense was sophomore Sarah Bowling and senior Jayme O'Bryant both with one RBI.
The Spartans (21-22, 7-8) scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning to start the game off swinging. Senior Kylene Hopkins reached first with a hit down the left-field line. Hopkins advanced to second off of a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Alyssa McBride and ran to third on a fly out to right field by O'Bryant. Bowling notched an RBI as she sent Hopkins across the plate with a double to right center.
In the bottom of the third, O'Bryant hit a home run to left field to put MSU up 2-0.
Illinois (18-25, 8-11) tied up the score, 2-2, in the top of the fourth and took the lead in the top of the fifth with five runs. The Fighting Illini scored its final three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 10-2 lead.
Shelese Arnold earned the win for Illinois and owns a 9-10 record on the season.
The Spartans conclude their series with the Fighting Illini Sunday, April 28, at 1 p.m.
