EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State softball team (3-9) will travel to Florida from Saturday, March 6, through Saturday, March 13 to play 11 games over the course of the week. The Spartans will open the annual spring trip in Boca Raton for the Miken Classic hosted by Florida Atlantic, and conclude the week at the Golden Panther Invite hosted by Florida International in Miami.
MSU is currently led at the plate by junior Lindsey Hansen. On the season, Hansen leads the team in batting average (.382), doubles (five), home runs (5), slugging (1.029), and is tied for first in RBIs (seven). With Hansen's home run against Cal State Northridge last Sunday (Feb. 28), she now ranks fifth all-time in school history with 16 career home runs. The Spartan junior is currently the conference leader in slugging percentage, second in total bases (38) and tied for third in home runs.
Leading the Spartans on the rubber with her 2.38 ERA is sophomore Lauren Kramer. Kramer enters the weekend with a team-high 33 strikeouts in 35.1 innings of work. On the year, Kramer has held her opponents to a .245 batting average and has limited the opposition to two doubles and two home runs, marks that rank her tied for second and tied for fourth in the conference, respectively.
The Green and White will open the Miken Classic on Saturday at 11 a.m. against Florida State. The Seminoles currently boast a record of 15-2 on the season. MSU will conclude the opening day of action against Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m. EMU enters the weekend with a record of 4-5.
MSU will next play a pair of three-win teams on Sunday to conclude the tournament in Florida A&M and Miami (Ohio). Michigan State will play the 3-3 Rattlers at 1 p.m. and the 3-4 Redhawks at 3 p.m.
Following the conclusion of the Miken Classic, the Spartans will remain in Boca Raton for a three-game set. MSU will first play Florida Atlantic at 6 p.m. on Monday (March 8). FAU currently is currently square in the win-loss column with seven each.
Michigan State will conclude action on the campus of FAU on Tuesday when it plays Connecticut at 12 p.m. and FSU at 2 p.m. on Tuesday (March 8). The Huskies begin the weekend with a record of 1-3.
After three days off, the Spartans will return to action on Friday, March 12, when they travel to the Golden Panther Invite hosted by Florida International. MSU will open the tournament against FIU with a doubleheader slated to begin at 4 p.m. The Panthers currently have a record of 12-2 on the season.
MSU will round out its spring trip on Saturday (March 13) when it plays a doubleheader against George Washington with game one scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. The Colonials are currently winless with a 0-4 record.
The Spartans will conclude pre-season tournament action March 20-21 when it travels to Oxford, Ohio for a four-team tournament hosted by the Redhawks. MSU will be joined by Robert Morris, Canisius, Toledo and host Miami. The Green and White will begin the weekend with a 2 p.m. game against Miami.
