EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State softball team will close out its regular season this weekend when it travels to Madison, Wis., for action against the Badgers on Friday and Saturday. The Spartans will face UW on Friday at 7 p.m. ET and follow up on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
Wisconsin currently sits in eighth place in the conference with a 19-29 overall record and 4-11 in conference games. The Spartans are currently 10th with a 20-30 record overall on the season, going 4-14 in Big Ten action.
MSU, who closed out its home schedule last weekend against Michigan, is led at the plate by junior Lindsey Hansen. Hansen ranks first in the conference in doubles (18) and is also third in total bases (107) and fourth in slugging (.718) within the Big Ten.
Sophomore Lauren Kramer is the ace of the pitching staff, throwing 195.0 innings this season - fourth most in the Big Ten. Kramer also is fourth in total strikeouts with 168 batters fanned. Kramer has been a regular in on the rubber, making the third-most appearances in the conference (39), 30 of which were games she started for the Green and White.
Molly Spencer, who has a .357 batting average, leads the Badgers at the plate. Spencer is slugging a team-high .622, tallying eight home runs and eight doubles. Jennifer Krueger is fifth in the Big Ten with 26 stolen bases.
Letty Olivarez is the top pitcher on the Badgers' staff, posting an ERA of 3.79. Olivarez is second in the conference with 206.2 innings of work as well as games started (34).
Head coach Chandelle Schulte is in her fifth season at the reigns of the Badger softball team.
This coming weekend will mark the end of the 2010 campaign for the Green and White. The Spartans will begin play in their new stadium next year, returning all but one player in 2011.
