Construction Begins on New Softball Stadium
July 16, 2010
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Construction has begun on the new Michigan State softball stadium scheduled to open before the 2011 season at Old College Field. Head coach Jacquie Joseph and the Spartans look to hold a dedication ceremony during the 2011 year with work scheduled to be completed in December 2010. "We are very excited to begin work on the new stadium," said head coach Jacquie Joseph. "When it's all said and done, Old College Field will be one of the most pristine complexes in the conference, if not the nation. We are definitely looking forward to our new stadium to begin the 2011 campaign, and this is only the start to a wonderful experience." The new 1,100-seat stadium will feature 120 chair back seats, a new press box, backstops, and handicap-accessible seating with brick accents to architecturally match the façade of historic Jenison Field House and the indoor hitting and pitching facility. Prior to the start of the 2010 season, home and visiting dugouts were constructed in-ground with each featuring an added restroom at the end of each dugout.
