East Lansing, Mich. -- - Michigan State softball coach Jacquie Joseph has announced the fall exhibition schedule for her team, with six fall dates that will help her team prepare for the upcoming 2018 season.
Joseph, beginning her 25th season at the helm, guided the Spartans to a 34-24 record and a spot in the regional final of the National Intercollegiate Softball Championship (NISC) in 2018, and returns all but one letterwinner from that team and will welcome in seven newcomers for the upcoming campaign.
"Fall ball is a critical time for our development," noted Joseph. "We've been happy with the work that our returning players have put in over the summer -- their commitment has really been exceptional. We think we have a really talented group of newcomers that are going to push for playing time, and any time the competition in practice comes at a high level, the product on the field is going to be better for it. We're excited to put our team into game situations and start to develop ourselves for the spring."
Five of MSU's six fall ball dates come at Secchia Stadium, with free admission for all fans. On Thursday Sept. 21, the fall schedule opens with Northwood coming to East Lansing for a 4 pm contest. On Sunday Sept. 24, MSU will stage a doubleheader against Kent State, starting at noon.
October kicks off with a home-and-home fall series against Michigan -- the game in East Lansing (Oct. 5) will start at 4 pm, and the rematch a week later (Oct. 12) will be a 6 pm first pitch in Ann Arbor.
The annual Parent and Family Weekend is Oct. 15, where MSU will have a doubleheader against Lansing Community College (11 am) and against Wayne State (3 pm).
