The Spartans began the day by picking up the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. MSU has now earned the doubles point in eight of its 12 matches this season. Earning the wins in doubles were sophomores Manon Noe (Liancort, France) and Whitney Wilson (Evansville, Ind.) at the No. 1 position. Noe and Wilson had to hold off Kellie Schmitt and Karolina Soor of Marshall as the Herd forced the Spartans to a tie-breaker.The Spartans held off the effort from Marshall, dominating the tiebreaker, picking up the victory 9-8 (7-2). The pairing is now 8-2 in its last ten matches and is on a four-match win-streak.
MSU also received contribution at No. 2 doubles from senior Stephanie Kebler (Okemos, Mich.) and Ivanova. Kebler and Ivanova got off to a quick start against Jessica Keener and Deanna Bailey of Marshall, gaining the 8-3 victory over the Herd and clinching the doubles point for the Spartans. The MSU tandem is now a perfect 2-0 when partnered with one another, with both victories coming at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, the Spartans got wins from Ivanova and senior Ana Milosavljevic (Johannesburg, South Africa). At No. 3 singles, Ivanova was able to defeat Marshall's Isabell Raich, 6-3, 6-3. Milosavljevic also earned a victory picking up a victory over Deanna Bailey of Marshall at the No. 4 singles position, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5.
The Spartans hopes at a victory were dashed as No. 90 Kellie Schmitt of Marshall defeated Kebler at No. 1 singles. The MSU senior earned the first set victory, 6-2. However, Schmitt battled back to defeat Kebler, 6-3, 6-2, in the next two sets.
