Women's Tennis Falls, 7-0, to No. 1 Northwestern

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team (6-7, 0-2 Big Ten) fell, 7-0, to No. 1 Northwestern at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility on Saturday, March 7. MSU falls to 6-7 on the season, and 5-2 in home contests. Northwestern boasts an 11-1 overall record, and a perfect 2-0 tally in Big Ten Conference play.
In doubles play, the most contested match was at the No. 3 spot. Sophomore Lindsey Lonergan (Cincinnati, Ohio) and senior Ana Milosavljevic (Johannesburg, South Africa) established an early lead against No. 74 Maria Mosolova and Keri Robinson from Northwestern. However, the Wildcat tandem rallied back from the early deficit to earn the 8-6 victory over the Spartans.
In singles action, Northwestern proved to be too strong for the Spartans, as it picked up all six singles matches. Senior Stephanie Kebler (Okemos, Mich.) gave a valiant effort against No. 2 Georgia Rose, dropping the first set 7-5. However, Rose defeated Kebler in the second set to earn the 7-5, 6-1 victory.
The Spartans travel to Seattle, Wash., for 4 p.m., matches against Washington (March 13) and Gonzaga (March 14). Play begins at 4 p.m. both days.
