Women's Tennis Blanks Ball State, 7-0

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team (8-4, 0-1 Big Ten) was able to bounce back from two straight losses with a 7-0 win over Ball State. The Spartans swept all three of the doubles matches and recorded wins on each singles court.
The Spartans kicked off the match with a solid effort in doubles on three courts. At the No. 2 spot, sophomore Marina Bohrer and junior Michaela Silesova blanked Ashlyn Rang and Sarah Hebble, 8-0. The duo of junior Nicole Herzog and sophomore Katarina Lingl dropped Courtney Wild and Kristel Sanders, 8-2. At the No. 3 position, redshirt Dana Guentert and Julianne Gruber fought hard for an 8-7 (5) win over Dena Boulieris and Lauren Pickrel.
In singles play, sophomore Nicole Herzog won her first match since the first game of the season with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Sanders on court two. During her first match against Wild, sophomore Olga Chernova fell, 6-3. Chernova was then able to come back in the second to post a 6-4 win, sending the match into a tiebreaker. Chernova edged Wild in the tiebreaker, 10-5, securing her victory.
Bohrer notched an impressive 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 3 position over Rang. Also winning by a score of 6-1, 6-0 was Guentert who faced Boulieris at the No. 6 position.
On court No. 4, Silesova took down Kylee Johnson in two sets, 6-4, 6-4. Lingl edged her opponent, Hebble, 6-4, 6-0 on court No. 5.
Ball State was the last nonconference opponent for the Spartans this season. Next week they continue conference play by hosting both Minnesota and Wisconsin.
