Women's Tennis Dropped by Illinois
April 8, 2012 EAST LANSING, Mich. - Under beautiful, clear skies, the Michigan State women's tennis team (8-10, 0-7 Big Ten) fell in a competitive match to No. 19 Illinois. The Spartans were blanked, 7-0, for the second match in a row. MSU did tally a doubles win on court three thanks to the tandem of freshman Julianne Gruber and sophomore Katarina Lingl. Gruber and Lingl were able to edge Allison Falkin and Misia Kedzierski, 8-6, to capture their first doubles victory as partners. Sophomore Marina Bohrer and redshirt junior Dana Guentert put up a good match against Rachael White and Amy Allin on court two but eventually fell, 8-5. At the No. 1 spot, the Fighting Illini's Marisa Lambropoulos and Melissa Kopinski dropped juniors Nicole Herzog and Michaela Silesova, 8-2. In her first singles match of the dual season, sophomore Jennifer Yen was edged by Abajian in the first set, 7-5 at the No. 6 position. She then dropped the second, 6-2. On court five, Gruber was able to tally at least one point in each of her sets against Kedzierski but fell, 6-1, 6-3. Lingl notched two points in each of her sets against White, but eventually lost, 6-2, 6-2 on court four. On court one, Chernova fell by a score of 6-0, 6-2 to Falkin. Bohrer was edged by the same exact score, 6-0, 6-2, by Lamropoulos at the No. 2 spot. Allin shutout Silesova, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 3 position. The Spartans are on the road for three-straight matches in the upcoming few weeks traveling to Iowa, Nebraska, and Ohio State. Results Doubles
