EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women’s tennis team improved to 17-5 on the season and 7-2 in the Big Ten with a 5-2 win over Iowa on Sunday afternoon in East Lansing. The Spartans picked up five wins in singles after losing the doubles point to secure their seventh win in the last eight matches.
After dropping the doubles point, the Spartans recovered and flexed during singles play. All five MSU victories came in straight sets, and Emily Metcalf and Sammie Memije also earned wins on the afternoon. It was Memije’s first career conference win in the Green in White.
Nguyen became the second Spartan to earn 20 wins in singles this year, joining Trouillot who owns a team-best 21. Metcalf improved to 16-3, including 12-2 at court three.
Michigan State concludes the 2017 regular season next weekend as they host Illinois in the last home match of the season on Friday, April 21, with the match set to begin at 4 p.m. MSU will then travel to Evanston, Ill. to face Northwestern on Sunday, April 23 to conclude the regular season, with the match set to begin at 2 p.m.
