Women's Tennis Completes Second Day of Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational
Faulkner to compete for singles title

EAST LANSING, Mich. - - The Michigan State women's tennis team concluded day two of the three-day Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational. Overall for the day, MSU tallied seven total victories: four singles and three doubles. Play will continue tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. with singles matches at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts, weather permitting.
Freshman Erin Faulkner will be in the Draw A singles final. She defeated Olga Shkundina of Akron 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. She will meet fellow Big Ten foe Lauren Chypyha of Wisconsin for the championship. Faulkner, a freshman from Raleigh, N.C., is competing in her first collegiate tournament.
Freshman Athena Trouillot, who went 3-0 on day one, fell in her semifinal match to Anastasia Tripoloskaya of Wisconsin 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. She will battle Kayleigh Hall of Toledo tomorrow for third place in the Draw B singles bracket.
In the Draw A doubles, MSU claimed the championship as it won both semifinal matches. Faulkner and Trouillot defeated Shkundina of Wisconsin and Shannon Newnes of Akron, 9-7, in one semifinal. In the other, Julianne Gruber and Emily Meyers beat Lauren Burich and Helen Rabot of Wisconsin, 8-3.
