Women's Tennis Completes Day One of Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational
MSU picks up eight victories in day one matches.

EAST LANSING, Mich.- The Michigan State women's tennis team finished its first day of the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational on Friday at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. The Spartans tallied six single victories along with two double victories. The day ended early with a rain delay and will pick up at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning indoors with double matches.
The day began with Draw A Doubles with junior Katarina Lingl and sophomore Julianne Gruber competing against Kally Alkire and Alex Brinker of Xavier University. Lingl and Gruber fell 8-5 in the match and tomorrow will face Alix Thurman and Nimisha Mohan of Miami. Junior Marina Bohrer and sophomore Catherine Parenteau recorded a victory against Anita Henestrosa and Caterina Kifer of IPFW, 9-7. As they continue towards the championship tomorrow, they will compete against Wisconsin's Hanna Berner and Laura Chypyha.
Freshman Emily Meyers and senior Nicole Herzog in the Draw B Doubles won 8-6 against Ally Westling and Lizzie Oosterbaan from Xavier. Tomorrow morning they will play against Rocio Diaz and Aina Hernandez Soler.
Bohrer and Parenteau picked wins in Draw A Singles matches. Bohrer faced Ana Pimienta of Marquette, 6-2, 6-1. Tomorrow she will compete against Haley Craig of University of Illinois-Chicago. Parenteau won 6-4, 6-2 in her match with Carly Peck of Dayton. Tomorrow, Parenteau will continue in her competition towards the championship against Prang Pantusart of Akron.
Lingl posted a victory, 7-5, 6-2, in round one of Draw B Singles against Rocio Diaz of Miami (Ohio) before falling to Imogen Golder of Purdue, 6-0, 6-1, in round two. Olga Chernova defeated Kally Alkire (Xavier)in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. Chernova will face Miami (Ohio)'s Christine Guerrazzi tomorrow.
The Singles D draw saw Meyers fall to Chrissy Coffman of Toledo, 6-0, 6-3. Tomorrow in the consolation round, she will face Maria Lazaris from Cleveland State.
Herzog and Yen competed in the Draw E Singles today. Herzog fell to Laia Hernandez Soler of Marquette and will compete against Cailtin Lawless of Xavier in tomorrow's matches. Yen was defeated today on the courts against Ana Rajkovic of Miami, 7-5, 6-4. Marquette's Aleeza Kanner will compete against Michigan State's Yen.
The action will continue tomorrow all day, courts will determined based on weather.
