Women's Tennis Finishes Day 2 of Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team finished day two of the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational with one Spartan heading to the championships. Marina Bohrer will compete in the Draw A Singles championship match tomorrow. The Spartans finished the day with a total of victories. Katarina Lingl and Julianne Gruber continued their action in Draw A Doubles today as they fell to Alix Thurman and Nimisha Mohan of Miami (Ohio), 8-4. They then continued in the south bracket winning against Cleveland State University's Ellen Folkers and Nicole Janek, 8-4. Tomorrow, Lingl and Gruber will compete against Lexy Pitt and Pia Rygh of Toledo. Bohrer and Catherine Parenteau gained a victory for Michigan State in a 9-7 match against Hanna Berner and Lauren Chypyha of University of Wisconsin before struggling in the loss against Imogen Golder and Gisella Pere of Purdue, 8-5. Tomorrow the pair will face Pran Pantusart and Angelika Jogasuria of Akron. In a close match in some Draw B Doubles, Emily Meyers and Nicole Herzog fell to Marquette University's Rocio Diaz and Aina Hernandez Soler, 9-7 (0). Later in the day, the two fell against Cleveland State's Kara Sherwood and Alex Bush, 8-5. In the final day of the invitational, they will compete against Ksenia Berestetska and Signe Lazdina of Akron. Doubles action in the Draw C Doubles for the Spartans included Jennifer Yen and Christina Brown as they tallied a win against Victoria Marchant and Claire McNulty of University of Dayton, 8-6. Tomorrow they will face Laia Hernandez Soler and Vanessa Foltinger of Marquette University.
In the Draw A Singles matches, Spartans Marina Bohrer will compete for the championship tomorrow and Catherine Parenteau will compete in a consolation round finals match. Bohrer picked up wins today against Haley Craig from University of Illinois-Chicago, 7-6, 6-1, and then against Alex Brinker from Xavier University, 6-2, 6-3. Tomorrow in the championship match she will face Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum of Purdue. Parenteau picked up a win today against Hannah Berner from University of Wisconsin, 5-7, 6-3, 10-9, after suffering a loss to Pantusart. Olga Chernova and Lingl will compete against each other in the northwest rounds of Draw B Singles tomorrow. Today, Lingl fell to Golder of Purdue, 6-0, 6-1, then to Courtney Wild of Ball State University. Chernova suffered in a close match against Alex Power of Cleveland State, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Chernova then fell to Erin Gebes of Marquette, 6-2, 6-1. Gruber continued the action today representing MSU in Draw C Singles. Gruber fell to Guerrazzi of Miami (Ohio), 6-4, 7-5. Tomorrow, she will compete against Ali Dawson of Marquette. In the Draw D Singles, Meyers defeated Maria Lazaris from Cleveland State, 6-2, 6-2. Tomorrow, Meyers will face Courtney Earnest of Ball State on the court. Herzog recorded a win against Caitlin Lawless of Xavier, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5) in her match in the Draw E Singles. While Yen, will face Nicole Janek of Cleveland State University. Yen suffered a loss today against Aleeza Kanner of Marquette, 6-3, 6-7(7), 10-7. Competing in the Draw F Singles was Brown.
