Women's Tennis opens play at Northwestern Wildcat Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Michigan State women's tennis squad continued its fall slate by opening play at the Northwestern Wildcat Invitational in Evanston, Ill., Friday at Vandy Christie Tennis Center. Pacing the way for the Spartans in Flight C singles was freshman Elena Ivanova (Moscow, Russia). Ivanova was able to defeat Emese Kardhordo of Wisconsin in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, advancing in the championship bracket.

In doubles play, freshman Dana Guentert (Lilburn, Ga.) and senior Ana Milosavljevic (Johannesburg, South Africa) teamed to defeat Gia McKnight and Selma Salkovic of DePaul University, 8-4, in Flight A consolation action. Also rallying back after a first-round defeat in doubles play were partners Stephanie Kebler (Okemos, Mich.) and Lindsey Lonergan (Cincinnati, Ohio). The paring was able to take down Peta Forsyth and Liz Tusler of Minnesota, 8-4, in Flight B doubles consolation.

The Spartans will be back in action tomorrow, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. (EST) at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center on the campus of Northwestern University.
