Women's Tennis Advances Three to Championship Rounds

Nicole Herzog and two other Spartans will compete tomorrow in singles championship rounds.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women’s tennis continued its action in tournaments in Illinois today at ITA Midwest-Regionals and the Second Chance Tournament.  Three Spartans will compete in the singles championship rounds at Second Chance tomorrow after picking up a championship in the doubles draw today.

MSU saw action today in Second Chance singles matches with Michaela Silesova as she advanced to consolation championships after her match facing Ese Davis, 6-0, 6-0, and Jennifer Yen pushed past Cristina Alvarez, 3-6, 6-4 (9).  Emily Meyers defeated Caroline Aleck of Western Michigan, 2-6, 6-3 (3).  While Nicole Herzog won in her match facing Vivine Noel of Chicago State University, 6-1, 6-0. 

Silesova and Herzog were champions today of Doubles Alpha after picking up a win against Kathleen Hawkins and Caroline Aleck of Western Michigan.  Meyers and Yen teamed up today to defeat Maria Rozo and Ilse Pacheo of Northern Illinois University, 8-2, to place fifth in the Doubles Beta Draw.   

Tomorrow, Yen will face Kathleen Hawkins of WMU in the championship match for the Singles Bravo Draw and Meyers will face Mary Malkin of NIU in the Singles Charlie championship.  In the Singles Delta Draw, Herzog will compete against Marnie Perez of Cleveland State University for the championship.  Silesova will face Helen Rabot of UW tomorrow in consolation championships as she competes for fifth place.

On the court during the Main Draw Singles of ITA’s today were Marina Bohrer and Catherine Parenteau.  Bohrer picked up a win against Pran Pantusart of Akron, 6-3, 6-3, before falling to Jenny Kellner of Notre Dame in the second round, 6-3, 6-2.  Parenteau fell in the face off against Molly O’Koniewski of Notre Dame 6-3, 6-1. 

In the consolation matches today of ITA’s Julianne Gruber lost to Julia Jamieson of Illinois, 7-6 (2), 6-3, in the singles qualifying.  In the singles consolation, Parenteau struggled against Kristen Dodge of Michigan, 6-4, 6-2.
