Women's Tennis Wraps Up Day 2 of Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team finished its second day at the Green and White Invite. The hosts of the tournament tallied three doubles and two singles wins in the second day of play. Doubles competition has concluded for the tournament and the last round of singles will be played tomorrow, Nov. 6th, beginning at 9 a.m. Action takes place at the MSU Indoor Tennis Courts.
The duo of sophomore Valentina Rusakova and Michaela Silesova accounted for two of the three Spartan double wins on Saturday in the Draw A Doubles. The pairing took down Wild and Sanders of Ball State, 8-5. They then topped Detroit Mercy's Strakhova and Halabi, 8-1 in the finals of consolation play. Junior Nicole Herzog and sophomore Katarina Lingl were able to bounce back from their 8-2 loss to Bowling Green's Chiricosta and Hill to edge Eastern Michigan's Toncheva and de'Lisle-Tarr, 9-7.
In Draw C Doubles play, sophomore Jennifer Yen and freshman Hilary Hager were defeated by Boulieris and Pickrel of Ball State, 8-4. They were able to come back and record an 8-5 win over the pairing of Friedrichs (Eastern Michigan) and Karoub (Detroit-Mercy).
The Spartans went one for one in the Draw A Singles bracket as Rusakova defeated Strakhova, 6-4,6-4 to advance to the bracket finals. She will face Nicky Stracar from Wisconsin on Sunday morning. And in the back draw, Chernova dropped her match to Wild of Ball State, 6-2, 6-2.
A pair of Spartans fell in both of their Draw B Single semifinal matches, Herzog to Markovic of Wisconsin, 6-2, 6-2 and Lingl to Eccleston of Bowling Green, 6-2, 6-3.
Silesova and Gruber automatically advanced in the back draw of the Singles C bracket by default.
In the final brackets for the Green and White, Friedrichs from Eastern Michigan beat out Yen, 6-0, 6-1, 10-7 in the semifinal match in the back draw of the D Singles Bracket. And in Draw E Singles, Hager took a loss to Bowling Green's Johnson, 6-2, 6-4, while redshirt junior Dana Guentert notched a singles victory over de'Lisle-Tarr of Eastern Michigan, 6-0, 6-3. Guentert will now face-off against Johnson in the finals on Sunday morning.
