Women's Tennis Concludes Green and White Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team concluded play at the Green and White Invitational on Sunday when the final round of singles were played at the MSU Indoor facility for the Spartans' final fall tournament. Four Spartans tallied singles wins today and redshirt junior Dana Guentert won the Draw E Singles bracket with her 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Jade Johnson of Bowling Green.
Also in Draw E Singles, freshman Hilary Hager defeated Eastern Michigan's Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr, 6-4, 6-1 to receive third-place honors in the consolation match.
In Draw B Singles, both junior Nicole Herzog and sophomore Katarina Lingl, recorded victories. Herzog defeated Mariya Tonocheve of Easter Michigan, 7-5, 6-0 in the back draw and Lingl topped Chloe Karoub of Detroit-Mercy, 6-4, 6-3.
But in the first three brackets of the tournament, Draw A, B, and C, the Spartans didn't see much luck, as they lost all four matches. In Draw A Singles play, sophomore Valentina Rusakova fell in the bracket finals to Nicky Stracar of Wisconsin, 6-2, 7-5. Sophomore Jennifer Yen lost in her match to Detroit-Mercy's Raina Halabi, 6-2, 6-3 in Draw B and in Draw C Singles play, freshman Julianne Gruber was topped by Bowling Green's Emily Reuland, 6-1, 6-3 in the consolation match. Bowling Green's Mary Hill defeated junior Michaela Silesova, 6-3, 6-1.
This concludes the final fall tournament for the Green and White. The Spartans kick off their spring season on January 18, 2012 when they host a dual match against Oakland at the MSU Indoor Courts.
