Women's Tennis Opens Season This Weekend

The Michigan State women's tennis team will open up its 2004 season as it travels to Nashville, Tenn., for two matches. On Friday, Jan. 16 the Spartans will compete against No. 12 Vanderbilt, and on Saturday, Jan. 17 will play against No. 31 Virginia.
Thompson did not play during the fall season, and ended her 2003 spring season with an 18-10 record with an eight-match winning streak.
The 2003 fall season found Lay as the Spartan Cup "A" Singles Champion as she carried a 10-4 singles record. Lay also competed at the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament finishing with a singles record of 1-1. In addition, Lay finished with a doubles record of 8-5 overall with freshman teammate Sarah Andrews (Darwin, Australia). Andrews concluded her fall season with a 7-7 overall singles record.
The Spartans will return home next week as they host Bowling Green on Saturday, Jan. 23 and Toledo on Sunday, Jan. 24. Both matches will be played at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility and will start at 10 a.m.
