EAST LANSING, Mich. -
In its only double header this season, the Michigan State women's tennis teams hosts Bowling Green and Toledo on Friday, February 10th. The Spartans face BGSU at 1 p.m. and follow up with a match against Toledo at 5 p.m. Action takes place at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
MSU is now 3-1 this season after defeating Cleveland State, 5-2. They have won the doubles point in all of their matches, except in their 5-2 victory over Eastern Michigan. The Spartans have gone 4-0 at two different positions so far this season. At the No. 4 singles spot, sophomore Katarina Lingl has posted a 2-0 record and so has junior Michaela Silesova. Redshirt junior Dana Guentert has paired up alongside freshman Hilary Hager to go 3-0 at the No. 3 doubles spot. Guentert and Yen also notched a victory at the same position against Oakland.
Last Time Out
The Spartans defeated Cleveland State, 5-2, last Saturday at home. MSU claimed the doubles point after winning all three doubles matches. There were some new partners at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions. Juniors Nicole Herzog and Michaela Silesova teamed up to drop their opponent 8-2 while sophomores Olga Chernova and Katarina Lingl won, 8-5. Guentert and Hager continued their undefeated streak at the No. 3 position with an 8-4 win.
Silesova notched an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 4 singles spot, while Chernova dropped her opponent, 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 position. Tallying her second win of the season, sophomore Marina Bohrer recorded a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 3 position. Freshman Julianne Gruber won her match, 6-2, 6-1. Both Herzog and Lingl fell in their matches.
Scouting Bowling Green
After beginning the 2012 season on a three-game winning streak, Bowling Green suffered its first loss to UIC. The Falcons fell, 5-2, at home but were able to notch two singles victories. Nikki Chriricosta won at the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-2, while Emily Reuland notched a No. 3 victory, 6-3, 6-0. Reuland has gone 4-0 so far in singles play this season.
Taking a Look at Toledo
Toledo also most recently suffered a 5-2 loss to UIC. Prior to the loss, the Rockets blanked Chicago State, 7-0. Against UIC . Kelsey Anonsen recorded at 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 1 singles spot. Toledo was victorious at the No. 2 singles position as well after Pia Rygh dropped her opponent, 6-4, 6-3.
