Meet the Spartans: Katarina Lingl

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team holds a 12-2 record so far into its 2014 schedule. In an attempt to "Meet the Spartans," msuspartans.com will feature a student-athlete every week throughout the season. Senior Katarina Lingl (Rochester Hills, Mich.) is featured this week. Nicknamed "Kat," the co-captain Lingl has been a presence in the starting lineup during her four years on campus, tallying a 22-17 career spring dual play record including a 3-0 mark this season.
Hometown: Rochester Hills, Michigan
Favorite part about your hometown: I grew up there, was born there. I made all my friends there my entire life
Siblings: An older sister
Reason for coming to MSU: My junior coach played here. He started coaching me when I was 12 and kind of got me into the whole college thing - he worked with me for six years and then that's how I got here
Best memories from MSU: Just with the team being able to travel and then even outside of practices just hanging out with the friends I've made from the team and even other athletes. It's been fun meeting all these different people
Post-school plans: I'm trying to get a graduate assistant position somewhere with coaching tennis
How long have you been playing tennis: Since I was three
Favorite meal: Anything Italian, but pretty much lasagna. My mom's side is Italian and we all cook
Favorite movie: "Walk the Line"
Favorite TV show as a kid: "Rugrats"
Favorite superhero: Catwoman

Nicknames: Kat, Kitty Kat, Special K, Ten K
What most people don't know about you: I'm a very good cook and baker. I like to make cakes. As far as cooking, I do a lot of pasta dishes and Italian food.
Biggest fear: Dark
Hobbies: Cooking, baking, I actually really like to write, listen to country music
Pregame ritual/superstitions: I say a prayer to my deceased grandpa and I listen to country music
