EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women’s tennis team returns home this weekend as it hosts Minnesota and Wisconsin in conference play. MSU will square off with Minnesota on Saturday, April 1 and Wisconsin on Sunday, April 2. Both matches are set to begin at 12 p.m.
The Spartans are coming off of a successful weekend of conference play as they defeated both Indiana and Purdue by a score of 5-3. MSU improved to 12-4 on the season and 2-1 against Big Ten opponents.
MSU returns home after a seven-match road trip and finished with a record of 4-3 during that stretch.
Michigan State’s success continued in capturing the doubles point, as they have in all 12 victories this season. Against Indiana, Davina Nguyen and Emily Metcalf defeated the 41st-ranked doubles team in the country to secure their eighth victory this spring. The duo of Samantha Memije and Athena Trouillot also improved to a record of 9-2 this spring.
MSU is 87-55 in singles play as a team, led by junior Aslina Chua and Trouillot, who both have 16 wins on the year. Nguyen also improved to 15-7 on the year last weekend.
The Spartans are 13-28 all-time against Minnesota and 11-43 all-time in matches against Wisconsin. Minnesota brings a 10-7 record into East Lansing, while Wisconsin is 4-10 on the year, including 0-5 in road matches.
Michigan State takes to the road next weekend to face Big Ten opponents Maryland and Rutgers. MSU will travel to Maryland on Friday, April 7, with the match set to begin at 3 p.m. MSU will then take on Rutgers on Sunday, April 9, with the match set to begin at 12 p.m.
